Dean Jones

Dean Jones is a Scottish interdisciplinary artist whose work combines making and queer theory. The artist utilises performance for the camera to create Pop Art inspired paintings, drawings and textiles.

Jones started his higher education journey at City of Glasgow College studying Printmaking before relocating to Dundee to study a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. After graduating in 2025, the artist then returned to Glasgow to study a Masters of Letters in Contemporary Art Practice at Glasgow School of Art.

His current practice explores the intersection of; queer desire, domesticity and BDSM culture, interrogating how these forces shape identity, intimacy and power dynamics. Drawing on critical theory surrounding queer art and censorship, Jones examined how the erotic is embedded within everyday life, and how domestic spaces function as both sites of repression and liberation. Through embroidery and print, the artist uses textiles to recontextualis archival queer imagery, disrupting traditional representations of sexuality and power. His paintings take this one step further by his self-portraits, in which paints himself clad in fetish wear, positioning himself within acts of degradation to explore the performance of desire and submission.
